The American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) was the armed conflict between Great Britain and the Colonist. Those residing in the colonies in America were the Colonists. Both parties were known as one entity, however, with time and the lack in similar interests, a schism was created and they became Great Britain and the Americans. As the Colonist grew and tried to expand, King George, the ruler of Great Britain at the time, wanted to take control over western expansion. King George’s control propagated to the colonists and were â€Å"tied to Britain by trade† which left them dependent. Due to the lack of currency flowing in the colonies, the colonists â€Å"used barter and credit† to acquire the things necessary to survive (â€Å"Why were they Colonies unhappy with the British?†). The King requested that the expansion of the colonist be restricted to the Appalachian Mountains and were â€Å"ordered east† instead. On top of having to move, the colonists were ordered by the King to provide housing for the British Colonies that would be stationed there. The Colonist felt that this was unnecessary because of the French and Indian War being over. From this, the Colonist are put in a position where they feel the need to separate from the king. Question: Discuss The Report for Modernizing of Chicago Convention. Answer: The provisions of Chicago Convention indicate such foresightedness that it is truly commendable. For over sixty years there have not been any substantive amendments to it. However international instruments are but a representation of the time in which they had been drafted and a relation that existed and balance that was being achieved by such a draft (Havel Sanchez, 2011). In the last sixty years since the Chicago Convention came into being there has been a dramatic change in various fields economic, technical, social and geopolitical. There are also various states that have emerged on the map which were not entities that were independent at the time when the convention was drafted. There has been a leap in technology of aviation, including technically feasible supersonic flight, aircrafts that are wide bodied and can each any destination on earth without the refueling requirement, aircrafts as economic means of transportation and various other such developments (Air Traffic Control, 2008). There are new problems which have arisen in the sixty years since the convention was drafted and could not have been foreseen reasonably at that time these include acts of crime against the civil aviation safety, the environmental protection growing as a concern, space technology application for management of air traffic, need for technical assistance or cooperatio n is increasing for assuring civil aviations global safety and also there being a drastic change in the methods of the Secretariat of ICAO, etc. An argument maybe made that the Convention does not require any kind of general review since the ICAO has been served well by it since its incorporation and any new contingencies or developments by way of interpretation ("Convention on International Civil Aviation", 1944). It can however also be argued on the other hand any interpretation that is creative could lead to a meaning that is completely contrary to the Convention thus distorting the States consensus scope or lead to their being a lack in the legal certainty that all the contracting States are supporting. There would be an evident benefit to the ICAO constitutional framework from the modernization that would take place in practice as well as the Conventions amended provisions (Aircraft Operations, 2006). There should be restoration of the Assembly to the true position in the organizations main body. A triennial cycle for assembly in the entire UN system is maintained only by the ICAO. The Assembly can be empowered by arraigning every two years the Assemblys regularly for a three weeks period which would be in line with the other organizations in the United Nations system. This was a proposal which was also formulated by the United Nations Joint Inspection Unit after in 200, May it evaluated the ICAO for various reasons (i) there would be more charge in the hands of the Assembly with respect to the general governance and effective decision-making, controlling the councils work and program supervising. It is necessary for the States to get together in greater frequency for formulation of the policy of the ICAO and discussing the problems mutually; it would be for a more reasonable period of two years the present budgeting in advance for three years could be a blind exercise often since the account of the fluctuating currency cannot be taken realistically or account of the exigencies that arise urgently during the Organizations work ("Convention on International Civil Aviation", 1944). Rather than of the different Conferences which under the Convention do not have any constitutional status it is necessary to make more frequent use of the Assembly's extraordinary sessions. The sessions of the council which is within the system of the UN a rare permanent body and of the bodies subordinate need to be limited to maximum of two sessions in a year and there should not be any time that should be wasted by the council for consideration of matters that are in the executive management's purview traditionally. There are high-cost expenses and exorbitant expenses related to language that is caused due to the vast number of Council meeting and the meetings of the subordinate bodies and the high amount of documents which are required to be prepared for the same. There are some evident lacunae that are required to filled by revision of the convention, issues that could not have been reasonably foreseen or were not foreseen during the time when the Convention was made in 1944 but which have in turn become an important part of the Organizations working (Annex 2 Rules of the Air, 2005). Other than the modernization mentioned some pertinent issues that are required to be addressed and revised in the convention are that of Environmental Protection, it is gradually that the concept of protection of the environment has become one of ICAOs work programs top priorities. However, at the time when the Chicago Conference took place it was not foreseeable that this issue would gain so much prominence over time due to the fast evolving activities of the industries and output all across the work during the 20th century's second half, including in the countries that were at the time when the Conference took place colonies. There has been a growing political weight that is being given to the green initiatives in various countries, and there is active interest that is being taken by the various communities internationally for environmental conservation. It was on 30th July 1968 that the United Nations in ECOSOC's 45th session addressed for the first the various issues relating to the environment, and recommendations were made for convening a conference on the various issues that surround the human environment to the General Assembly. Environmental pollution's first issue with respect to aviation is that of noise, particularly in the airport's vicinity. ("ECOSEC Resolution 1346 (XLV)", 1968) An early initiative was taken by the ICAO in Buenos Aires in 1968, September in its 16th session where the subject of noise from aircraft was addressed in airport areas was discussed, and the Council was urged to organize a Conference and adopt guidance and specifications materials that are international relating to noise related to aircraft. The protection of the environment is a concern that is general and the Chicago Convention's revisions should be in a manner that should confirm that the States have a duty which is a legal commitment to the protection of the environment from the aircraft engine emissions and noise in a balanced and coordinated manner which the Organi zation shall determine and the State shall at the same time accept the obligation of not introducing any kind of measure that is unilateral which would lead to the jeopardizing of the aircraft that are foreign (Annexes 1-18, 1974). Organizations legal work, the Legal Committee of ICAOs work and over the years under the ICAOs auspices the Diplomatic Conferences that are convened has become a feature that his highly successful, important and visible feature of the programs of ICAO (Bartsch, 2012). The various instruments that the Legal Committee and the Sub-Committees of the Legal Committee have drafted are the few which are in the forefront decidedly of the international law's development which is progressive and the codification of the same. A particular place among such instruments is for the security conventions of the aviation industry that has been adopted with efficiency and speed that is unprecedented in response to the increase in challenges in the world with respect to terrorism in aviation ("Convention on International Civil Aviation", 1944). The different foras have closely followed, in their various instruments that they have adopted, approaches and legal principles that have been developed in ICAO. The Chicago Convention however for reasons that are historical did not have any reference to the Organization's legal work and the Constitution and the existence of the Legal Committee and the Draft Convention's Procedure for Approval are based on the Assembly's resolution only and do not represent as the international law's source (McBrien, 2015). Thus it is necessary that some kind of revision of the Convention should include and give suitable constitutional recognition and basis to the Organizations legal work. These according to me are the most important changes that need to be incorporated in the Chicago Convention, since though till time this convention has been serving the aviation industry well however with time there might be various situations that would lead to their being interpretations and usage of the convention which it was not meant for at the time of drafting. There is a Medical Centre, which can be found in the Dome next to Neptunes Chamber. A qualified First Arider attends it. Other members of cast are also qualified to give first aid to the guests and cast members. THE MANAGEMENT OF HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK REGULATIONS 1999 Regulations to safeguard the Health Safety of Young workers (Aged Under 18) have been a legal requirement since the 3rd March 1997. The law is based on risk assessment and falls within the requirements of the recently updated Management of Health Safety at Work Regulations 1999. The requirement to carry out young persons risk assessment has been updated with these Regulations which places duties on employers to: MARKETING FACT SHEET: Thorpe Park The Marketing Department are a small team who work across both Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures. It is the overall responsibility of the Marketing dept. to ensure that the brand identities of the two Parks are maintained in all communication, both on and off the Parks. They do this through first identifying the brand identity, target market, and visual representation of the brand, i.e. the logo. For Thorpe Park the target market is family with children over 12. Each year the marketing department will put a marketing plan together, which covers the following areas: Product. Although almost without exception a new attraction is launched each year, and the main launch communication will focus on that, general communication about the rest of the Park is required. Theme Parks provide a whole day out for the family and its not just about the rides. The other attractions, places to eat, games, photography and the atmosphere all play an important part in delivering a fun day out. Pricing. There is a complex pricing structure for the Park, which looks to maximise the revenue the Park can achieve with its targeted number of visitors. Marketing will review the pricing each year and along with the finance department look at how the budgeted targets can be achieved through the pricing matrix. Advanced sales are important to the business so tickets booked in advance are discounted; also those booked via the Internet are further discounted, as this is a more efficient way for us to produce the tickets. Advanced tickets reduce the queues at admissions as visitors already have their tickets and can go straight in to the Park. Promotion. Promotion of the Park happens via a number of different communication channels. Advertising. This is generally broken down into two areas; the creative production of the advert and then the choice of where to place that advert, TV, Radio, Press etc. This years main communication for Thorpe Park is the launch of three new rides, Detonator, Vortex and Zodiac, targeting a young teen market. Three new 10 sec adverts have been created and then adapted for Radio use. The main brand message for Thorpe Park in 2001 is Sensory Overload. Promotions. Promotions are very import in incentivising visitors to come to the Park. The incentive is generally either a Buy One get One Free mechanic or a discount off the full adult or child price. Thorpe Park runs promotions on its own or in conjunction with the Tussauds Group, i.e. Tosco. Promotions can be run with a wide variety of partners, Gesso, the Sun newspaper, or souls via a direct mail campaign to 1 million surrounding homes. Public Relations. This area is all about getting positive exposure in the media, TV, Radio and Press for free. This is generally achieved through issuing Press Releases and conducting interviews with journalists. Each year approximately 1,500 seasonal jobs are advertised for Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures. Adverts appear in the local press to advertise two open days when prospective cast members can visit the Park and the selection process is put into place. The Recruitment Manager and team will also visit colleges and universities in order to make students aware of the job and career opportunities that exist at Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures. Once suitable candidates have returned their application forms, they will be interviewed and if they are successful, they will be offered a position. All new cast members are then required to attend two days induction training. Thorpe Park will employ about 600 seasonal casts this year. Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures also employ 165 and 65 permanent cast respectively, with 15 of the 165 working across both the Parks. First impressions are very important. Cast members have one opportunity only to create a good first impression. Personal appearance is all-important and this can be divided into five areas which, when combined, ensure that cast present a positive image at all times. These are dress, personality, attitude, behaviour and personal hygiene. Thorpe Park attracts to a great variety of groups during the open season. Examples of these are families with young children, teenagers, student groups, people from other cultures, non-English speaking guests and guests with specific needs. In order that cast can be aware of the needs of all the guests, all cast are trained in politeness, awareness of special needs and strategies to use for different situations. Guest Care involves a wide spectrum of skills that are involved when dealing with guests. These skills reflect the essential skills required in everyday life. We take our appearance / image standards very seriously since through these the cast are able to reflect our high standards. We know that our cast members are maintaining these standards from the feedback we receive from on-going research. Every day, exit surveys are available for guests to complete. The survey itemises all the different areas of Thorpe Park. Through these the marketing department are able to maintain an informed overview of the daily performance of cast and the facilities, which are in place for the convenience of guests. GUEST SERVICES TEAM The Guest Services Team is ultimately responsible for dealing with guest comments that cannot be addressed by other cast members. These comments can vary tremendously in content and in the way in which they can be resolved. All departments keep the Guest Services Team up to date throughout the day of any information that might affect the guests day out. For example, if a ride is not working, the Guest Services Team will be notified and given all the facts so that guests can be given correct information.
